Goochland softball got a strong all-around performance from Kailyn Spencer Monday evening and rode that outing to a 5-0 victory over Maggie Walker in the Region 2A East quarterfinals.
Spencer knocked in a pair of runs, hit two doubles and went 2-for-4 at the plate while also striking out 11 in a complete game effort.
The win vaults the Bulldogs in the region semifinals where they’ll play for a state tournament berth. They’ll travel to take on Page County Wednesday in that round.
Shortstop Jordyn Laing and second baseman Faith Gerdes also put in strong nights at the plate with both going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Goochland took a 1-0 lead in the second and then broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Spencer provided the final two runs of that frame.
