Goochland rolls over Randolph-Henry

It didn’t take Goochland long to jump all over Randolph-Henry Friday night in a 59-12 thrashing of the Statesmen at home.

Goochland led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter on rushing touchdowns by Jake Martin, Patrick Clore and Mitchell Brice, with Brice and Clore both rushing in from 42 yards out.

By halftime it was 45-0 as Colby Cooke hit a field goal, Nathan Mattox scored on the ground and quarterback Cody Johnson connected with Brent Alvis and Brice on touchdown passes.

The Bulldogs are averaging 53.2 points per game over the last five contests, all blowout wins over the bottom five teams in the James River District. Goochland now faces Buckingham County and Amelia back-to-back to close out its James River slate.

Johnson finished the night 6-for-14 for 123 yards and the two touchdowns. The rushing offense was extremely balanced with Brice going for 71 yards, Clore going for 72, Mattox checking in at 52 and Zakell Johnson at 46 yards. Brice led all pass catchers with 56 yards on a pair of catches. His receiving touchdown went for 54 yards.

Mason Engel had a 77-yard kick return for a touchdown in the third quarter that closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Seven different Goochland players scored the squad’s eight total touchdowns.

After five-straight blowouts, Goochland has to get back down to business on the road Friday against Buckingham County.
