Goochland cruises past Bluestone to cap unbeaten regular season

Goochland’s Marcus Burton didn’t waste any time at all Friday night. Not with an unbeaten regular season on the line.

Burton ripped off a 51-yard run, then scored from five yards out to cap a four-play drive to open the game, getting the Bulldogs off on the right foot in a 56-13 blowout win over Bluestone.

The win wrapped up a 10-0 regular season for Goochland, the Bulldogs’ first unbeaten regular season since 2011, a season that ended with a loss in the state final and set the table for the 2012 state title run.

Burton finished with 105 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to lead the Bulldogs’ 385-yard effort on the ground. Burton’s three touchdowns came right out of the gate with all coming in the first quarter to put Goochland up 21-7.

The rest of Goochland’s fleet of backs also had a solid night as 12 different players carried the ball. Jasper Carter chipped in 84 yards on nine carries, Perry Snead-Johnson had 49 yards and Calvin Martin had 45 yards and all three of those players scored a touchdown. Tanner Bradshaw rounded out the scoring with a two-yard TD plunge. He also threw for 62 yards, with the bulk of that going to Burton on a 34-yard catch.

Martin also picked off a pass on defense as did Brian Herrera. As a team, Goochland held Bluestone to less than 200 yards of total offense.

The Bulldogs now get a week off before jumping into the postseason where they’re currently the top seed in Region 2A East.
