Goochland boys basketball rolls past Buckingham

Goochland’s boys basketball team had its usual football hangover to contend with — the Bulldogs’ football team seemingly inevitably impacts the basketball program with a deep playoff run as a number of athletes play both sports.

But the hardcourt edition of the Bulldogs are getting rolling now, beating Buckingham 60-39 Friday night for a solid early season win that moves Goochland to 3-1 on the year. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and built on that advantage each quarter while holding the Knights in check defensively by forcing 24 turnovers.

Junior Deion Harwood led the Bulldogs with 21 points while senior Keiston Carter chipped in 10.

For the Knights, Jayvon Chambers’ 12 points led the way while Gerry Toney and JaCorey Holman each pulled down 10 boards. Holman also had five blocks while Toney had three steals.

Goochland travels to take on Cumberland Monday night while Buckingham will play Brunswick in Goochland’s Holiday Tournament starting on December 21.
