FUMA takes second, Woodberry third in VISAA D1 cross country

It was a an all-out battle at the top of the VISAA Division I boys cross country championships, and while Trinity pulled out the title, Fork Union and Woodberry Forest didn’t make it easy at all at the championships held at Fork Union’s home course.

 

The Blue Devils took second behind Trinity, powered by two top 10 finishes. Woodberry Forest took third behind FUMA.

 

Senior Alex Lomong took third overall in 16:38.17 for the Blue Devils while sophomore Julian Yescas took ninth for FUMA. Senior Anthony Vernon took 21st, freshman Mark Toombs finished 31st. Matthew Abrahams finished 40th to cap the scoring for Fork Union.

 

Woodberry Forest’s third place finish came largely on the strength of a back-to-back 10th and 11th finish by Robert Singleton and James Carrington. William Rich finished 26th for the Tigers and Parker Jacobs finished 33rd. Clay Tidings was the Tigers’ fifth finisher with a 38th place finish.

 

St. Anne’s-Belfield finished eighth overall as a team while Blue Ridge took 18th. Sophomore Evan Sweatt was STAB’s highest finisher at 32nd overall. Taku Endo led the Barons with a 36th-place clocking.
