Fork Union boys win Fred Hardy Invite in indoor track

 

Fork Union’s depth ignited the Blue Devils Saturday at the Fred Hardy Invitational as FUMA rang up 110 points to outpace second place Brunswick by 56 points.
Drake Davis had a monster meet for the Blue Devils, winning the 55-meter dash and taking second in the high jump while also running a leg on FUMA’s second place 4×200 team. O’Neil Combs also put together a big-time day, taking second in the 55-meters behind Davis, winning the 300-meter dash and taking second in the long jump.
Alex Lomong and Peter Lomong gave the Blue Devils a sweep of the top two spots in the 1600-meter race and Dante Price posted a solid meet with a third in the 300-meter race as well as running a leg of the title winning 4×400 FUMA squad. Julian Yescas took fourth in the 3200-meters too.
To round out the bulk of the scoring, Rashad Bruce took second in triple jump for Fork Union and Daniel Bamisile grabbed second in the shot put. Blake Wishard of FUMA took ninth in the 500-meter race.
Western Albemarle’s boys team grabbed sixth place largely on the strength of Caleb Rider and Blake Tolman’s sweep of second and third in the pole vault. Western’s Gannon Willcutts also got in on the act, taking third in the 1000-meter race.
Rounding out the scoring for the Warriors were Trevor Stutzman’s seventh in the 1600 and Jack Ehlenberger’s sixth in the 3200-meter race.
Albemarle’s boys team finished 11th overall and Charlottesville tied for 12th. The Patriots put it together on the strength of their relays as they took second in the 4×800, third in the 4×400  and fifth in the 4×200. Charlottesville took fourth in the 4×200 and got a boost from Warren Riley Covert who took fourth in the 1600-meters. Jaron White grabbed eighth in the 300-meters and Tariq Carrington was fifth in the high jump to round out the scoring for the Black Knights.
Fluvanna had a couple of strong performances with Travis Moe taking sixth in the 1600-meter race while Markyll Bland took sixth in the long jump. Karshawn Anderson took sixth in the high jump for the Flucos.
On the girls side, nobody locally challenged for the title in a loaded field, but there were a slew of strong individual performances. Charlottesville’s Taylor Watkins had a tremendous meet with a 500-meter dash victory and a third-place finish in the 55-meter. Meanwhile Louisa sophomore Brandy Brown won the long jump with a leap of 17-02.25.
Central Virginia owned the top 10 in the 1000-meter race when Western’s Annie Taylor and Chance Masloff went second and third in race while Fluvanna’s Kristen Cabrera took eighth, Kellyn Kusyk of Charlottesville took ninth and Isabelle Hermsmeier finished 10th for Monticello.
Western’s Madison Masloff finished eighth and Fluvanna’s Matasha Martin ninth in 300-meter race.
Monticello’s Laura Habermeyer finished fifth in  the 1600-meter run, Kristen Cabrera for Fluvanna was sixth, Zoe Clay took eighth for Western and Gabriella Bock was 10th for Albemarle
Fluvanna’s Jackie Rodriguez finished eighth in 3200 meter, teammate Camryn Frederick took 10th and Western’s Taylor Catlett notched a ninth-place performance.
Louisa’s girls team finished fourth in the 4×200 while the Western girls finished fifth in the 4×400 just ahead of Louisa’s seventh place outing.

Aaliyah Clark of Louisa, Lydia Garner of Western and Matasha Smith of Fluvanna tied for sixth in the high jump.
Western’s Madison Masloff took third in pole vault while teammate Liv Heineman was fifth.
