Fork Union falls in shootout with Appomattox

If Fork Union could’ve solved Appomattox’ JaVon Scruggs to De’Von Graves connection, the Blue Devils may have become just the second team to derail the Raiders in the last 35 games.

But even with the Fork Union offense clicking, Appomattox picked up a 49-36 victory over the Blue Devils.

Scruggs, the Raiders’ quarterback, hit Graves for four touchdowns, with three of them going for 30 or more yards. The Raiders also went for 352 yards on the ground.

FUMA countered with an aerial assault of their own, with Luke Wilson throwing for 319 yards and two touchdowns on 21-for-28 passing. Will Stupalsky exploded for 137 yards and a touchdown on seven catches while Logan Justice had 83 yards on four receptions. Larry Elder caught seven balls for 65 yards and Myles English caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Wilson.

R.C. Wallbrook handled the bulk of the ground game, rushing for 103 yards and two scores on 17 touches.

Harrison Christian led the Blue Devils with seven tackles while Steven Smith had five stops. Abimbola Banjoko registered a sack.

Stupalsky also had a pair of field goals for the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils (1-4) jump into Prep League play against St. Christopher’s Friday after a brutal schedule to open the 2017 season.
