Folley powers Charlottesville past Harrisonburg

To be clear, Charlottesville coach Eric Sherry doesn’t think there’s a bad win, but sometimes they’re just a little sweeter.

“There’s never a bad win, but this was well worth the bye week and weeks of practice we had,” Sherry said.

The Black Knights rebounded from a week one loss to Dominion to beat Harrisonburg on the road 33-21, evening CHS’s record at 1-1 on the year. Sherry credited that bye week with giving the Black Knights a chance to reset.

“I know it sounds weird but being able to practice for two straight weeks with pads on, that was a big deal,” Sherry said. “We definitely got a lot of quality work in.”

Sabias Folley led the way with four touchdowns on the ground for the Black Knights, with Tre Durrett notching Charlottesville’s other touchdown with a rushing score.

The Black Knights shuffled the backfield with Rakeem Davis moving out of the quarterback slot with Sam Neale stepping in behind center. Neale taking the quarterback role freed Davis up to get the ball more in space and play defense as well as returning kicks.

“It makes more sense to get him out in all those other positions- quick kicking, returns, he played defense all night,” Sherry said. “And he can run those counters and pitches.”

Neale handled the quarterback spot well too, setting the stage for Folley’s big night by making the right reads most of the night.

“He’s so daggone grounded, he doesn’t get too high or too low. he won’t turn a bad play into something worse,” Sherry said. “It has been really, really smooth.”

Now Charlottesville turns its attention to William Monroe, who they’ll face Friday at 7 p.m.
