Fluvanna tabs Michael Morris as new head football coach

Fluvanna County has its football coach for the second time in a few months.

The Flucos announced the hiring of Michael Morris, who served as the junior varsity defensive coordinator last year and is an art teacher. He follows Josh Wallace, who stepped down after being hired earlier this year to replace Steve Szarmach.

Morris returned to the county a year ago after a stint at Union High school, the school formed in 2011 with the consolidation of Powell Valley and Appalachia High Schools. Morris served at Union as Travis Turner’s defensive coordinator. He was a part of a staff that led Union to five winning records in six years, playoff appearances each season including a 2013 run to the state semifinals.

He also coached at Powell Valley under Phil Robbins, a VHSL Hall of Famer.

Morris is a Fluvanna native who played at Bridgewater. As the junior varsity defensive coordinator last year, his unit surrendered just 12.8 points per game with a pair of shutouts while the squad went 6-4.
