Familiar Foes: Charlottesville girls edge Fluvanna in Region 3C quarterfinal

It seemed inevitable as the region standings started to shake out down the stretch that two Jefferson District girls basketball teams were bound to run into each other in the Region 3C tournament. When Fluvanna County won its way into the automatic bid, the chances of a rematch ratcheted up a notch.

That’s how Charlottesville and Fluvanna girls basketball found themselves in their third matchup of the season Friday night where the Black Knights prevailed for the third-straight time, this time pulling off a 47-44 victory over the Flucos in an all-out battle.

Charlottesville jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Flucos countered in the second and trailed just 22-20 at the half. Charlottesville managed to hold on though and keep their season alive.

Andrea Lefkowitz’s 12 points and 15 rebounds gave the Black Knights a big lift in the post while T.C. Younger and Camiyah Brown also notched double digit games, with Younger posting a team-high 13 points while Brown snagged seven boards to go with her 12 points.

Nevaeh Ivory ended an illustrious high school career with a 21-point performance for the Flucos, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Fellow senior Mya Wright had nine points and KeKe Davis had eight. Similarly to the Flucos’ loss in the Jefferson District semifinals, they went a touch cold at the free throw line (outside of Ivory’s 5-for-6 night there) with a 6-for-13 performance as a team.

Charlottesville will host Turner Ashby in the Region 3C semifinals Tuesday.
