Fall Roundup 9.2.15: Western, Monticello volleyball win

Western Albemarle’s volleyball team made short work of Waynesboro on the road Tuesday night. The Warriors rolled 3-0 over the Little Giants, winning 25-18, 25-12 and 25-12 to cruise.

Kelsey Grove led the offense with 15 kills while Colleen Forsman notched five kills and Olivia Nichols and Makayla Shifflett finished with four digs ech.

Erin Farina and Elissa Simpson triggered the offense with 19 and 11 assists respectively while Grove, Courtney Berry, Farina and Nichols each came up with a block.

Hannah Miles and Adriana Bland combined for nine digs while Elissa Simpson finished with five aces. Nichols and Hailey McDaniel each had two aces.

Covenant girls tennis sweeps St. Gertrude’s

Covenant’s girls tennis team picked up a 9-0 victory over St. Gertrude’s Tuesday, moving to 2-0 on the season in the process.

Covenant (2-0, 1-0 LIS) plays at Eastern Mennonite on Friday.

Covenant hockey blows past North Cross

On the road Tuesday night, Covenant’s field hockey team shutout North Cross to grab a 6-0 victory over the Raiders.

Maddie Fagan had a pair of goals against North Cross while Lizzie Shim, Wynston Archer, Elizabeth Llera and Abby McCarthy each had a goal.

Monticello volleyball sangs second win

Just a few days after beating Culpeper, Monticello’s volleyball team traveled north for a rematch and rolled 3-0 to pick up the Mustangs’ second victory of the year. The Mustangs won 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13 over the Blue Devils Monday.

Hannah Green led the attack with nine kills while Katie Devine blasted eight kills and three aces as part of a seven service-point outing. Green also had a pair of aces. Monticello setter Allie Perez had a big-time night with three kills, four aces and 31 assists to go with six service points.

Amaya Gibson had four digs and two aces while Summer Larese and Ashli Spruill each posted four kills.

Monticello (2-0) hits the road again later this week, traveling to Spotswood Thursday night.
