Charlottesville’s golf team torched Meadowcreek Golf Course Thursday to the tune of a school record 143 that gave the Black Knights a win over Monticello in a dual match.

Charlottesville’s A.J. Stouffer’s three-under par 31, which was also an individual school record for a nine-hole event, paved the way for the Black Knights’ monster day in the nine-hole clash with a rebuilding Monticello squad.

Zach Russell finished with a 35, Emily Timberlake carded a 37 and Banks Northington rounded out the win with a 40 for the Black Knights.

For the Mustangs, Tyler Walker notched a 37 for a strong individual outing while Chandler Proffitt had a 50, Jake Byrnes a 55 and Mitchel Prantz a 56.

The Black Knights will look to keep their red-hot play going when they play Albemarle Wednesday at Birdwood.  

Monticello volleyball sweeps Culpeper

Monticello volleyball made short work of Culpeper Thursday in straight sets.

The Mustangs rolled 25-10, 25-7, 25-8 to pick up the 3-0 victory.

Monticello’s Allie Perez stuffed the stat sheet against the Blue Devils with 20 assists, 12 service points, four aces and four kills.

Zimako Chuks checked in with 11 kills while Katie Devine had four digs and three kills. Haley Brown had four kills and six service points. Hannah Green notched three kills.

Monticello (1-0) will next play at Culpeper on Monday night in a rematch.

Albemarle field hockey falls to Brooke Point

With a pair of first half goals, Brooke Point knocked off Albemarle’s field hockey team 2-1 in a rematch of two teams that used to play each other regularly when the Patriots were members of the Commonwealth District.

Brooke Point scored in the first half at 17:30 left in the first half when Sheila Raczynski scored the game’s first goal. Albemarle answered with a goal by Kat Mayo off an assist by Morgan Stilley, with 10:50 left to go in the first half.

Brooke Point’s took control of the lead again with 2:30 left to play in the first half on a Lucille Morrisroe tally.

Albemarle golf beats Orange County

Albemarle’s golf team picked up a win Thursday, with the Patriots’ Brosan Ezell’s 39 leading the way for Albemarle while Chase Northcott picked up a 41.

Ezell tied with Orange County’s Colby Romasco for the low score of the day with both carding 39s.

Ryan Porter’s 43 and Cooper Ezell’s 44 rounded out Albemarle’s scoring while Orange’s Ryan Dodson finished with a 43 while Anthony Lacava finished with a 45 just ahead of teammate Trent Carr’s 47.

Covenant girls tennis sweeps Fredericksburg Academy

Covenant’s girls tennis team beat Fredericksburg Academy 7-0 Thursday, picking up a solid season-opening win. The Eagles rolled with 8-1 wins coming at four of the five singles spots for Covenant. The Eagles (1-0)  host St. Gertrude’s Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
