Covenant, FUMA, CHS lock up at wrestling quad

A trio of local wrestling squads — Covenant, Fork Union and Charlottesville — locked up last week in a quad meet along with Randolph Macon and the local-on-local duals led to some close scores and exciting matches. Charlottesville beat Fork Union 39-36, Covenant beat Charlottesville 45-36 and Fork Union knocked off Covenant 46-36.

Several wrestlers posted 3-0 marks on the night, with Dion Raney, Alley Jensen, Razvan Unitario and Josh Gibbons of Charlottesville all going unbeaten. Josiah Zodhaites went unbeaten for Covenant at 138 pounds while David Colmus went 3-0 at 182 pounds. Jesse James of Fork Union also went 3-0 at 126 pounds.

Jensen put together a solid night highlighted by a rally from a 5-0 deficit against Yi Choi of Fork Union. Jensen managed to pin Choi after fighting back from the 5-0 disadvantage. Alex Rivas of CHS also responded to an early deficit in the match with Fork Union, coming back from down 7-0 to win at 195 pounds.

Covenant’s Colmus and Wade Kammauff battled at 182 with Kammauff, a sophomore at CHS, wrestling up to take on the tough, experienced Colmus. Giving up 20 pounds to Colmus turned out to be too much for Kammauff though as Colmus picked up the pin en route to his 3-0 night.
