Charlottesville golf finishes third in Conference 23 regular season

Charlottesville High’s golf squad competed in the second leg of the Conference 23 championships Thursday at Meadowcreek in Charlottesville, and in a tough conference the Black Knights finished third in the regular season race behind regular season champion Liberty Christian Academy of Lynchburg and E.C. Glass.

CHS set a new school record with a cumulative day of 300 from the squad’s top four golfers . A.J. Stouffer who was crowned Conference 23’s regular season indivudal champion led the way for the Black Knights with a 71. Zach Russell finished with a 74, Banks Northington carded a 76 and Emmy Timberlake rounded out the top four with a 79.

LCA’s regular season conference championship is the school’s first since the private institution was admitted to the VHSL earlier this year. They earn an automatic berth in the region tournament. They finished third in the second leg with a 306, but a 304 from the first leg gave them a five stroke victory over Glass’ 615 with a 610. Charlottesville finished with a 619 in the two-leg event. Isaiah Clark led the way for LCA with a 72, Seth Walker had a 73, Josh Leslie had a 76 and Bradley Robertson had an 85.

E.C. Glass won the second leg with a scorching 297 as Alec Terrell finished with a 72, Connor Burgess notched a 73, Ben Ailsworth a 75 and Gray Wiley had a 77.

The teams will play the Conference 23 tournament September 28th at Meadowcreek with the champion or a runner-up to Liberty Christian snagging the conference’s second automatic berth in the Region 4A North tournament.
