Charlottesville girls hold off Fluvanna County

Fluvanna County and Charlottesville girls basketball rarely lock up without it being a knockdown, drag out battle and Tuesday night didn’t disappoint.

This time, despite 32 points from Fluvanna’s Nevaeh Ivory Charlottesville came out with the win, edging the Flucos 63-57.

The Black Knights got a balanced scoring effort with four players in double figures as T.C. Younger scored 15, Tati Allen scored 14, La’kasia CAlloway scored 12 and Kasey Lamb scored 10. The Black Knights pulled off the win without Carmella Jackson or Jess Antwi in the lineup, leaning on its depth to pull off a comeback.

Fluvanna jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter, with Ivory looking unstoppable from the jump with 12 first quarter points. The Flucos hit the rocks in the second quarter though as Charlottesville answered with a 13-5 frame to take a narrow 22-21 lead into the break.

By the end of the third, in spite of Allen scoring 11 of her 14 in that quarter, the Black Knights still led by just one. Charlottesville hit just enough free throws to hold on in the fourth, going 6-for-12 din the fourth from the charity stripe.

The Flucos will try and bounce back Friday on the road against Powhatan while Charlottesville takes on Harrisonburg on the road Wednesday night.
