Buckingham softball shuts out Prince Edward

Buckingham County’s softball team got the season started off right with an 8-0 thrashing of Prince Edward on the road Monday night.

The Knights’ star pitcher, Libby Morris, an All-Region B first team selection in 2010, shut down Prince Edward with a one-hit, 13-strikeout performance in the victory.

Prince Edward committed six errors to help out the Buckingham offense. The Knights’ Chelsea Shoemaker had a pair of hits and two RBI while Robyn Davis scored a trio of runs.

Buckingham hits the field again Friday on the road against Blessed Sacrament at 4:30 p.m.

Buckingham softball shuts out Prince Edward

Two games, no runs allowed. It’s safe to say that Buckingham County’s defense is already in mid-season form as the the Knights took down Prince Edward 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Lesley Christian picked up the complete game shutout, striking out 10 batters while giving up just four hits.

Buckingham picked up a pair of runs in the first inning, both coming on bunts from Christian and Kelley Gough before tacking on an insurance run in the seventh.

The Knights have outscored their first two opponents by a combined score of 8-0 with Libby Morris also pitching a complete game shutout last week against Fluvanna Conty.

Buckingham (2-0) travels to Nelson County today at 4:30 p.m.
