Spring Sports roundup 3.27.17: Western boys and girls soccer win, Orange baseball snags victory

Western Albemarle’s boys soccer team edged out Fluvanna County Monday night, winning 1-0 over the Flucos on the road.

 

Luke Magargee connected on the game-winner for the Warriors with a blast from 25 yards out for the Warriors. Western goalie Cole Irvin needed just on save to preserve the shutout against the Flucos.

 

The Warriors play Monticello on the road Thursday.

 

Western girls soccer shuts out Fluvanna

Western Albemarle’s girls soccer team peppered Fluvanna County Monday night to the tune of a 9-0 victory with a balanced offensive attack leading the way.

 

Katrine Berg and Caitlin Harvey had two goals each for the Warriors while Elizabeth Fabiano, Cameron Hucek, Molly Gobble and Kate DeJong scoring once each.

 

Shannon Moore had the Warriors’ eighth goal, striking from 37 yards out.

 

Western gets a long break now until April 13 when they host Charlottesville High. Fluvanna will look to bounce back against Charlottesville Thursday.

 

Orange baseball edges Massaponax in high-scoring affair

 

Orange County’s baseball team stayed unbeaten with a wild 15-13 road win over Massaponax.

 

The Hornets’ Bradley Hanner went 3-for-4, scoring four runs and knocking in two others with a pair of doubles. Tre Smith went 2-for-5 and had a double. Justin Beaty, Joel Wright, Christian Amos, Kaleb Marshall and John Dawson each had two hits. Wright, Dawson and Beaty each had two RBI too. Wright had a pair of doubles while Dawson stole three bases.

 

The win pushes Orange to 5-0 on the season.   

 

Charlottesville girls soccer beats Louisa County

 

Charlottesville girls soccer shut out Louisa County Monday, beating the Lions 5-0.

 

Susannah Birle scored twice for the Black Knights while Emily Thorne, Audrey Davis and Annabel Coyle scored a goal each.

 

Charlottesville boys soccer edges Louisa

 

Charlottesville’s boys soccer team stayed unbeaten with a 9-1 win over Louisa County Monday night.

 

The Black Knights’ Evan Blow notched a hat trick for the Black Knights while Abibi Osman had two goals and two assists. Ayat Mohamed scored once and dished out two assists. Barun Tamang and Barun Tamang each had two assists. Campbell Brickhouse, Redone Kondo and Joe von Storch each had a goal for the Black Knights.

 

Albemarle softball blows past Chancellor

 

Albemarle’s softball squad is off and rolling and they kept it going Monday night with an 11-1 win over Chancellor. The victory moved the Patriots to 3-0 on the season.

 

Ellie Cain snagged her third win of the season in the circle with a complete game effort, scattering four hits and allowing just the one run.

 

Quinn Graves went 2-for-3 with three RBI while Logan Freisen went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Meghan Brown went 2-for-3 including a double and two RBI.

 

Western Albemarle girls tennis sweeps Louisa 6-0

 

Western Albemarle’s girls tennis beat Louisa County 6-0 Monday night. The Warriors play Fluvanna County Tuesday at 5 p.m.
