Basketball Roundup 12.3.16

Madison County’s boys basketball team built a slight halftime lead and exploded in the third quarter to beat Orange County 67-50 Friday night.

 

The Mountaineers went up 34-27 before the break and then reeled off an 18-7 third quarter to put the Hornets away. Isiah Smith and Elijah Lewis each scored 18 points.

 

Orange’s Tre Smith led the Hornets with 10 points while Kaeshawn Braxton and Tyrone Warren each had eight.

 

Louisa County girls beat Chancellor

 

Louisa’s girls basketball team edged out Chancellor on the road 51-49 to pick up a big early season victory and move to 2-0.

 

Sophomore point guard Tyi Skinner scored 20 points for the Lions while Anna Agee came up with 16. Bianca Atkinson led Chancellor with 18.

 

The Lions jump into Jefferson District play Tuesday with a home clash against Albemarle.

 

William Monroe boys drop Rapphannock

 

William Monroe’s boys basketball team blew past Rappahannock Friday night 63-45, with Kam’ron McCain posting a big-time double double in the effort.

 

McCain scored 18 points and dished out 10 assists. Senior Anthony Terry scored 14 points and Jalen Anderson finished with 13 on the night.

 

Albemarle boys beat Patrick Henry-Roanoke

 

Albemarle’s boys basketball team is no stranger to big road wins, last year they beat Hampton on the road in the playoffs, and this year’s edition is picking up where last year’s left off.

 

The Patriots beat Patrick Henry-Roanoke 59-40 Friday, with Jake Hahn’s double double setting the pace. Hahn had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Albemarle while Austin Katstra led the scoring with 13 points and J’Quan Anderson had 10.

 

The Patriots host Louisa County Tuesday night as they move into Jefferson District play.

 

STAB girls blow past Episcopal

 

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls basketball team built a double-digit halftime lead and coasted past Episcopal Friday night, beating the Maroon 75-54.

 

A trio of scorers led the way offensively for the Saints as Bri Tinsley notched 19 points to go with five assists and four steals, Jovia Winkey scored 18 points and dished out two assists and Jayla Davis scored 18 points. Davis also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out three assists and had four steals. Sierra Smith cleaned up on the boards as usual and finished with 18 rebounds and seven points.

 

William Monroe girls beat Rapphannock

 

William Monroe’s girls basketball team passed its first road test with a 71-41 cruise past Rapphannock Friday night.

 

Dajour Strother finished with a double double of 28 points and 10 rebounds while Sam Brunelle filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, 22 rebounds, nine assists and eight blocks.

 

The Dragons will host Brentsville Tuesday in a rematch of the 2016 Conference 28 title game that the Dragons won 42-35.

 

Buckingham boys fall to Nottoway

 

Buckingham’s boys basketball team struggled from the floor Friday night and fell 61-40 to Nottoway.

 

The Knights shot just 21 percent from the field in the loss, with Antonio Chambers’ 15 points leading the Knights offensively. He also grabbed six rebounds and had three steals. Andrew Johnson, Jr. had 10 rebounds for the Knights.

Madison County’s girls basketball team lost 44-42 to Stonewall with Makayla Taylor scoring 26 points and Makenna Santinga scoring 11.
