Basketball Roundup 1.5.18: Louisa girls get a big win

Louisa County’s girls basketball team pulled off a road shocker Friday night, knocking off Albemarle 51-50 in overtime.

 

Alexis Miller finished with 20 points including the gamewinner while Alexis Chapman notched 13.

 

The Lions will take on Fort Defiance at 4:45 p.m. Saturday in the Play for Preemies Event at Western Albemarle.

 

Goochland boys cruise past Randolph Henry

 

Goochland’s boys basketball team picked up a solid win Friday with a 78-40 dismantling of Randolph-Henry.

 

Deion Harwood just missed a double double with 17 points and nine boards while Quincy Snead finished with 16 points and six assists. Isaiah Matovu chipped in 15 points. James Bell had eight points and seven boards and Kam Holman notched eight points.

 

Charlottesville girls explode past Orange

Charlottesville’s girls basketball team has gotten on an offensive tear of late, hanging more than 90 points on Powhatan earlier this week before taking apart Orange County 94-16 Friday.

 

Jess Antwi scored 20 to lead the Black Knights while Camiyah Brown finished with 16. Carmella Jackson had 12 and La’Kasia Calloway had 11. Andrew Lefkowitz and Taylor Ward each had nine points while Kasey Lamb had seven.

 

The Black Knights will travel to take on Louisa Tuesday.

 

Western boys blowout Fluvanna

 

Western Albemarle’s boys basketball team beat Fluvanna County 69-38 Friday night. Tommy Mangrum poured in 20 points and notched seven boards to lead the way while Gabe Nafziger had 17 points including four 3-pointers.

Blue Ridge’s boys basketball team fell 66-51 to Huntington Prep in the Chance Harmon Classic Friday. Michael Gray poured in 19 points and grabbed four boards for the Barons. Jaden Frazier finished with nine points and Savion Helm notched eight points and six boards. The No. 18-ranked player in the Class of 2020 Jaemyn Brakefield led Huntington with 21 points while the five star’s frontcourt mate Quinn Slazinski, a 6-foot-8 Louisville signee, had 16 points.

 

STAB boys basketball fell 65-63 to Highland on the road Friday night. Justin Taylor had a monster game with 20 points and 16 rebounds while Dalton Taylor stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Mesiah Wood had 10 points and six rebounds.

 

Buckingham fell to Bluestone 63-59. Chris Gregory had a game high 19 points for the Barons. DJ Lassenberry led the Knights with 16 points. Amari Toney and A.J. Johnson each chipped in 13 points.
