Basketball Roundup 1.28.17: Monroe boys, Buckingham boys win critical district games

William Monroe’s boys team started fast and held on late to beat George Mason 50-46, a critical Bull Run District victory for the Dragons.

Jalen Anderson led the way with 17 for Monroe, Anthony Terry had 12, and Kam’ron McCain dished out eight assists.

 

Buckingham boys win rivalry clash

Buckingham County’s boys team completed a sweep of the Battle of Route 60 rivalry by beating Cumberland 52-46 Friday.

Antonio Chambers led the way for the Knights, posting a double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds while also finishing with three assists.

Gray Heslip also had a big night for the Knights with 15 points and five rebounds. Brycen Newby finished with nine rebounds.

 

Albemarle boys drop Orange

Albemarle’s boys squad beat Orange County 69-45 Friday, with Austin Katstra’s 18 points and nine rebounds leading the attack. Jake Hahn scored 14 points for the Patriots and both J’Quan Anderson and Maxx Jarmon scored 11 points.

For Orange County, Chris Dickerson led the Hornets with 13 points while Zach Williby scored 10 points. The Hornets went 18-for-23 at the free throw line.

 

STAB boys beat Collegiate on the road

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys squad rallied late to complete a season sweep of Collegiate 59-54.

Nick Reese scored 17 points grabbed four rebounds and went 6-for-7 from the field.

Jayden Nixon had 15 points, nine rebound and three steals for the Saints.

Albemarle’s girls team beat Orange 55-30 with Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper posting a double double with 13 points and 11 boards while Haylee Howard-Radde notched 11 points.

Western Albemarle’s boys squad knocked off Powhatan Friday with Ryan Ingram scoring 13 points and dishing out six assists while Austin Cress posted a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Western Albemarle’s girls beat Powhatan 46-21 with Eleri Hayden exploding for 19 points and eight rebounds against the Indians.

Buckingham County’s girls squad beat Cumberland 57-55 with Jada Chambers pouring in 23 for the Knights.

Goochland’s boys beat Central Lunenburg 42-29 with Deion Harwood leading the Bulldogs with 18 points.

Miller boys basketball beat Carlisle 94-69.

Louisa County’s boys basketball squad beat Charlottesville 67-48.

Monticello boys basketball beat Fluvanna 65-46
