Basketball Roundup 1.19.16

On what became a special night for junior Austin Katstra, Albemarle High’s boys basketball team made short work of Fluvanna County Tuesday night, rolling 78-43 over the Flucos.

 

Katstra logged his 1,000th career point and finished with 14 points to lead the Patriots. Grant Kersey notched 13 points while Myles Adams-Yates had 11.

 

Orange girls pick up win at home

 

Orange County’s girls basketball team kept things rolling Tuesday night with a 46-31 win at home over Monticello.

 

The Hornets had a trio of players in double figures with Kiani Hudgens’ 13 points leading the way while Laine Harrington finished with 11 and Lexi Lomax chipped in 10 for Orange.

 

The Hornets (15-2) led 27-17 at the break and kept Monticello at arm’s length from there.

 

Mariah Brown led Monticello with 10 points on the night with Kiana Scott finished with six.

 

Western girls beat Louisa on the road

 

Western Albemarle’s girls basketball team picked up a 52-49 victory over Louisa County on the road Tuesday night, holding off a fourth quarter charge by the Lions that cut into the Warriors’ 41-33 lead going into the final quarter.

 

Eleri Hayden led Western with 14 points on the night while Shannon Moore chipped in 11, including eight in the second half. Elizabeth Coffman finished with nine points Madi Starsia finished with five.

 

Louisa County’s Anna Agee led the Lions with 13 points while Tyinhia Skinner finished with nine and Nya Anderson had eight.

 

Albemarle girls edge Fluvanna on the road

 

Albemarle’s girls basketball team managed to beat Fluvanna County 53-47 Tuesday night. Aiyanah Tyler-Coooper finished with 15 points, helping the Patriots overcome a 25-23 deficit at the break.

 

Albemarle scored 17 points in the fourth to take control and pick up the win.
