Baseball Roundup 3.30.17: Louisa, Orange, Covenant grab wins

Louisa County’s baseball team picked up a big win on the road Thursday, shutting out Albemarle 3-0.

 

The game was a scoreless tie heading into the sixth inning, when Aaron Szalankiewicz blasted a home run to put Louisa up 1-0. Then in the seventh, Ethan Fletcher and Dakota Hall scored to push the lead to 3-0. Cole Agee went 2-for-3 and drew a walk for the Lions.

 

Albemarle stranded two baserunners in the sixth and seventh, unable to scratch out a run against Louisa’s Robert Grubbs or John Reynolds. Grubbs struck out 12 in six innings of work and the tandem scattered three hits in seven innings with Reynolds picking up the save.

 

Andrew Porter, Evan Mitchell and Ryan Porter each had a hit for the Patriots. Aiden McCune pitched well for the Patriots, helping hold the Lions scoreless for the first five innings.  

 

Orange County baseball blows past Spotsylvania

Orange County’s baseball team kept things rolling Thursday night, beating Spotsylvania 7-1.

Canon Davies went the distance for the Hornets in seven innings, striking out four and scattering four hits while surrendering just one run.

Tre Smith helped give Davies a lot of the offense he needed, going 2-for-4 at the plate including a triple while scoring twice and knocking in two runs. Keenan Williams went 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored once. Bradley Hanner went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Hanner and Williams each had doubles, with Hanner and John Dawson stealing two bases each.

 

Covenant baseball drops Central Virginia Disciples

With a home run from Jake Haney and a solid performance on the mound by Declan Kent, Covenant baseball beat Central Virginia Homeschool Disciples 8-4.

The Eagles’ Kent struck out four in five innings of work and didn’t allow any hits or surrender any walks.

 

Other Scores

Goochland baseball beat Nottoway 7-1 with Tanner Bradshaw going the distance and striking out eight.

Fluvanna baseball beat Charlottesville baseball 11-1.

Collegiate baseball knocked off St. Anne’s-Belfield 8-3.
