St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys basketball team managed to escape Fork Union with a win Tuesday night, edging the Blue Devils 69-64 in overtime.

 

After Fork Union’s Stanley White hit a 3-pointer to force overtime, STAB managed to bounce back and pull away in overtime.

 

Javin Montgomery-DeLaurier led the Saints with 26 points and 17 rebounds as well as five blocks, three steals and four assists. Montgomery-DeLaurier went 10-for-14 from the field.

 

Jayden Nixon chipped in 12 points and three assists while Jalen Harrison had 10 points on the night.

 

Detwon Shelton countered Montgomery-DeLaurier’s explosive night with 29 points including four 3-pointers on a 10-for-15 shooting performance. Shelton pulled down 13 rebounds and rejected five shots as well. Adissa Gittens-Smith finished with 13 points. White checked in with eight including the huge 3-pointer at the end of regulation.

 

The victory pushes STAB (12-6) to 7-1 in the Prep League. Fork Union is now 6-9, 2-5 in the Prep League.

 

Buckingham boys win second straight on the week

 

With a monster effort from B.J. Gough offensively, Buckingham County won its second game in as many nights, beating Amelia 64-52 on the road Tuesday night.

 

Gough poured in 24 points and also had six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Leon Ragland finished with a double double, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Mabry finished with eight rebounds and a trio of blocks. Brycen Newby had eight rebounds and two blocks. Tariq Gough finished with eight points.

 

Albemarle boys coast past Orange

 

Albemarle’s boys basketball team rolled 81-59 past Orange County Tuesday night, winning the Patriots’ second game in two straight nights after AHS beat Powhatan Monday.

 

Justice Taylor led the Patriots with 15 points while Austin Katstra finished with 14 points and nine boards. Myles Adams-Yates scored 14 points, Javon Carter had another 10 and Grant Kersey notched five assists.

 

Orange girls beat Albemarle

 

With a stingy defense that held Albemarle to just 13 first half points, Orange County girls basketball knocked off the Patriots 54-42 Tuesday.

 

The Hornets got a solid lift from Kiani Hudgens down the stretch as she went 5-for-6 at the free throw line to help seal the victory. She finished with 13 points to lead all scorers.

 

Orange was up 25-13 at the break, and Albemarle couldn’t climb out of that hole despite a much stronger second half.

 

Laine Harrington had 11 for the Hornets, Deja Wilson had nine points including two 3-pointers. Lindsey Slaughter scored eight points for Orange.

 

Aneesha Debruhl led Albemarle with 11 points while Anne Ridenhour finished with nine for the Patriots.

 

Western girls accelerate past Powhatan

 

With a strong 18-point fourth quarter, Western Albemarle’s girls basketball team pushed past Powhatan for a 56-40 victory.

 

The Warriors got a big lift from a balanced scoring effort as Natalie Marbury recorded 13 points, Elizabeth Coffman finished with 13 of her own and Eleri Hayden scored 12, including seven in the fourth quarter.

 

Covenant boys fall to Roanoke Catholic

 

Covenant’s boys basketball team fell at home Tuesday night, dropping a clash with Roanoke Catholic 58-45.

 

Lucas Myers led the Celtics with 24 points on the night, while Ethan Tait had 12 points.

 

Matt Shobe led the Eagles with 14 points. Covenant trailed 24-17 at halftime, but a rough third quarter put the Eagles down by 19 points at 46-27.

Charlottesville girls basketball edged Fluvanna County 43-41 Friday, with Alajiah Ragland’s 20 points leading the way. Kajesha Taylor finished with 12 points. … William Monroe girls basketball continued their strong play of late with a 50-31 victory over Clarke on the road that included a triple double performance from Sam Brunelle. Brunelle finished with 26 points, 15 rebounds and 13 blocks. Dajour Strother also turned in a strong overall performance with 14 points and 11 rebounds. … Charlottesville’s boys beat Fluvanna 69-53 with Tyreek Ragland scoring 27 piiunts and Caleb Gage checking in with 20. … Monticello’s girls beat Louisa County on the road 58-54, digging out of a 31-27 deficit to snag the win. … STAB’s girls basketball team beat St. Margaret’s 72-20, with Bri Tinsley scoring 25 points while Jovia Winkey had 14 and Ashley Taylor added 12 points. … Goochland’s boys team beat Central Lunenburg 71-70. … Western Albemarle’s boys team beat Powhatan 64-44.
