Albemarle volleyball sweeps Louisa, Orange

Albemarle’s volleyball team picked up a pair of sweeps this week, beating Louisa County Tuesday 3-0 and Orange 3-0 Thursday to get Jefferson District play off to a strong start.

 

Against Louisa the Patriots rolled 25-6, 25-8 and 25-19. On the night Gabbi DeGennaro led all hitters with eight kills while Alexis Duday had seven, and both unleashed hitting percentages over .650.  

 

Stephanie Lugus and Emery Hawkins were perfect in attacks while Cindy Yu led the team in service with 12 points and 5 aces. Katie Smith had 9 service points and 3 aces, while Ellie Benning had 8 points and 2 aces. Sarah Hanssen led the team in assists with 16 while Benning registered 14. Victoria Bickley led the team in digs with nine.

 

Against Orange County, Albemarle got rolling in the middle of the first set after Orange built a 6-5 lead, winning that set on a 20-6 tear 25-12. The Patriots then won game two and three 25-13 and 25-19.

 

Hanssen led the Patriots against the Hornets in aces with four and Duday, Yu and Gabbi DeGennaro had three aces each. Katie Schnell finished with a team-high five kills and Hanssen had 10 assists to go with Ellie Benning finishing with eight.

 

Albemarle (9-0) will face Charlottesville Monday at home.
