Albemarle golf wins Jefferson District match

Albemarle’s golf team jumpstarted its season Wednesday at Lake Monticello in the first 2017 Jefferson District match, running away with the victory with a score of 316, outpacing second place finishers Western Albemarle and Charlottesville’s scores of 341 each.

 

Albemarle junior Jack Bruns set the pace for the Patriots with a 72, tying Charlottesville’s A.J. Stouffer for the individual title.

 

Cooper Ezell checked in just behind Bruns with a 76, Ryan Porter carded an 80 and Robert Brozey finished with an 88 to round out the Patriots’ effort.

 

Charlottesville’s Zack Russell put together a 73 to combine with Stouffer for a solid one-two punch while Rob Walker (96) and Hunter Randle (100).

 

For Western Albemarle’s runner-up finish, Nathan Vance put together an 81, Brian O’Dea had an 85, Andrew Yancey had an 87 and Zach Smith notched an 88.

 

Monticello finished fourth as a team with a 358 with Tyler Walker’s 78 and Jake Huffman’s 82 giving the Mustangs a big boost. Louisa finished fifth led by Zane Moore’s 86, Fluvanna took sixth led by Joe Pace’s 84. Orange finished seventh with Will Johnson carding a 103 to lead the way.
