Albemarle girls soccer battles past Monticello

Albemarle girls soccer managed to fight off a scrappy, relentless Monticello squad Monday night to stay unbeaten in the Jefferson District with a 3-0 victory over the Mustangs.

The Patriots’ defense picked up another shutout and managed to prevent the Mustangs from registering a shot in goal, allowing Jaya Daniel to post another clean sheet in goal.

The Pats got a breakthrough from Katie Matney late in the first half to snag a 1-0 lead before the break. Then Madeline St. Amand helped set up Lauren McDonald to double up the lead during the second half before Kora Jillions provided an insurance goal and a 3-0 advantage.

The Patriots will try and keep things rolling against Orange County at home Thursday while the Mustangs host a rematch with a Western team that edged Monticello 1-0 last week as part of a challenging stretch for the Mustangs.
