Albemarle’s boys indoor track team couldn’t catch Conference 16 champion Atlee, but the Patriots managed to come close, finishing second to Atlee 136-111 Wednesday in the conference championship meet.

The Patriots managed four individual event winners, with Dacari Clark winning the 300-meters, Law Clark winning the 500, Ben Gersbach taking the 1000 and Jonathan Muhler winning the 3200. Clark also took third in the long jump.

Jack Bailey and Sam Forney finished just behind Muhler in the 3200 at third and fourth.

Eric McDowell finished third in 55-meter dash while Henry Cohen took third in the 1600. Zach Mackenzie finished third in the 1000 behind Gersbach.

Sean Desmond took fourth in the 55 hurdles while Stephen McDaniel took fifth.

The Patriots’ relay teams were solid with runner-up finishes in the 4×400 and 4×800. The 4×200 squad took third.

Orange County finished fifth as a team, with John Marshall Gillum taking second in 500-meters while Dequane Simmons took second in 55 hurdles and in the triple jump.

The Hornets’ 4×400 team won that relay for an event title.
